ICBC Launches Online Test To Refresh Drivers’ Knowledge

VANCOUVER – Car crashes are once again on the rise in B.C., with a total of 350,000 last year.

A new survey by Insights West showed that 60 percent of British Columbians believe drivers are worse today, specifically due to distracted driving at 41 percent, the lack of respect for rules of the road at 22 percent, speeding at 16 percent and aggressive behaviours such as cutting someone off at 12 percent.

Bad driving habits are a result of the driving rules being forgotten, which two-fifths of drivers admitted that they likely forgot. To refresh their memory and to make the roads safer, ICBC is launching the Drive Smart Refresher Test for drivers to take. It’s a free online tool on B.C.’s driving rules.

“Our results show that drivers are hungry for resources to help them become better drivers,” said Mario Canseco, spokesperson for Insights West. “They recognize that there’s room for improvement when it comes to refining their knowledge and shedding those bad habits behind the wheel.”
