Stuart Lake Lakeside Communities Help Yekooche Evacuate

PRINCE GEORGE – The isolated community of Yekooche is 75-kilometre drive northwest of Fort St. James at the north end of Stuart Lake. Over 120 residents were asked to evacuate on Sunday because of the wildfires. People from around other lakeside communities banded together to help their neighbours. Nearly 15 vehicles headed for the Yakooche Sunday evening to transport people to Fort St James. Some came to help from across the lake from Tachie by boat.  All 123 residents of Yakooche are now together staying at a local motel.
