WILLIAMS LAKE – As of noon Friday, category 2 open fires will be allowed again throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. This comes as a result of the decreased fire risk in the region. However, category 3 open fires remain prohibited until September 29th. Activities that will be allowed include burning stubble or grass in an area under 0.2 hectares, burning of one or two piles, use of sky lanterns, tiki torches and chimineas, use of fireworks including firecrackers, burn barrels or burning cages, binary exploding targets and air curtain burners. A map of the affected areas is available online.
