WILLIAMS LAKE – The cowboys are usually spiffed up in early summer, certainly in time for Stampede, so it’s a bit odd to see major work being done to them at this time of year.

Gary Muraca, the Director of Municipal Services with the City of Williams Lake, said it’s been in the budget for Williams Lake’s famous wooden statues to get repainted this year, but several challenges caused the facelifts to be delayed.

“Unfortunately, the bull rider, in particular, has been a magnet for vandalism,” Muraca explained. The City has been forced to repair and even replace parts such as the tail — likely taken as a ‘souvenier’.

Lake City artist Dwayne Davis has been very busy this summer, and his talents are critical in restoring the iconic statues.
