HIGHLIGHTS: Cougars Get A Royal Beating

SPORTS – The WHL Regular Season has begun and the Prince George Cougars kicked it off in Victoria with a doubleheader. 

Friday nights game started with a few power plays and close shots but both the first and second periods ended with 0’s on the board. Going into the third Josh Maser got the first goal of the season from the top of the paint 5 minutes in. Victoria returned the point scoring on a late power play with 3 minutes left in the game. After the buzzer and 65 minutes of overtime, the two teams headed into a shootout where Victoria took the win 2-1. 

Saturday night the game started out slow but the Victoria Royals took the first goal, quickly returned by Cougars Ethan Browne. With four minutes left in the first period Victoria got one more in before heading into the second with the score set at 2-1. Royals jumped ahead adding two more goals in the second period and one in the third to end the game at 5-1 for Victoria and the Cougars finish the weekend 0-2. 

The Cougars next match up will be in Kelowna on Wednesday.
