SPORTS – Four games and only two wins for the UNBC Soccer teams over the weekend. Both teams were in action Friday night with the men in Prince George and the women on the road.

It was a tight match between Mens UNBC Timberwolves and the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday.
The game started out slow, but it was the Timberwolves who got on the board first. The goal was off a penalty kick opportunity for TWolves captain Francesco Bartolillo, his fourth of the season.
The game ended with a victory for the Timberwolves 1-0.

The men’s second game of the weekend took place Sunday as they hosted the University of Calgary Dinos. Michael Henman made the only goal of the evening for UNBC. Plenty of chances for both teams but like Friday night, the game ended 1-0 in Prince George’s favour.

For the Women’s game Friday evening against the University of Fraser Valley, Paige Payne opened up the scoring with a shot to the back of the net. Her goal was quickly returned by UFV ending the first half at 1-all. Fraser Valley took the final goal in the second half to finish the game 2-1.

Saturday’s matchup was against the defending Canada West Champions, Trinity Western. Spartans were up 2-0 when Timberwolves Madison Emmond scored her first of the season ending the first half 2-1. With 16 minutes to go in the second TWU was up again when Sofia Jones made her shot to keep the score within one at 3-2. Spartans scored minutes later and the Timberwolves managed to get one more in before the game ended in extra time with a final score of 4-3 for TWU.

The women will host UBC and UVic next weekend while the men travel to Vancouver for two games.
