A Fair For Everyone

PRINCE GEORGE – Starting October 7th until the 13th is Homeless Action Week in BC and to kick it off, Association Advocating for Women and Community tried something new.

Every year AWAC does something to raise awareness for what’s happening with the homeless population in Prince George. This year they decided to throw a fair that was available to the entire community. Just outside of the AWAC building, part of George Street was closed off to host games, food and entertainment.

“We thought this year why don’t we just put on an event that they can actually attend and it won’t cost them anything and they can have fun. It brings awareness to the community that there are events that everyone in the community can attend but the homeless can’t because they can’t afford to. So it’s bringing all the community together just to participate in an event and get to know everybody,” says AWAC Executive Director, Connie Abe.

Organizers of the fair say it’s something they want to put on yearly but they may have to make a few adjustments like the date or location depending on how this first year goes. But one thing that will stay the same is their special guest, Hugh McNair who does chainsaw wood carving artwork. He told AWAC members he would be more than happy to come out and support each year by providing some entertainment.
