DAWSON CREEK – A new trades training facility at Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek officially opened today.

The $34.4 million project opened in time for classes last month to help provide students with hands-on learning using industry-standard equipment for a career in the skilled trades. The facility will house the carpenter, millwright, plumber, welding and wind-turbine maintenance programs. It will replace several old structures and will provide a 33% increase in physical spaces.

“We students have been blessed with this amazing building,” said Deanna Hoard, millwrighting student, Northern Lights College. “It is an amazing tool for our future and for the future generations to come. It is an honour to be able to learn in a centre that has new tools and technology.”

Funding for the trades facility came from the Government of Canada’s Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund with $14.6 million and the Province gave $16.4 million with the remainder $3.4 million coming from the college and donors.
