PRINCE GEORGE – School district 57 student numbers are up by only about 30 this school year but with changes to class size and composition, a total of 15 portables are in use at area schools including a brand new addition at Springwood Elementary.

Last year enrolment jumped by about 300 students and it has left many Prince George schools full.  So full, the District 57 Board has limited specific neighbourhoods to catchment only students.   Malaspina Elementary, Southridge Elementary, College Heights Secondary, Heritage Elementary, Glenview Elementary, Hart Highlands Elementary, Springwood Elementary, Edgewood Elementary schools are included as well as Duchess Park and College Heights Secondary.

Caps have been put on registration for kindergarten in choice schools as well.

Board of Trustees Chair Tim Bennett says growth is being seen at the elementary level and planning needs to be done now to accommodate those students in secondary schools over the next five years.  The Board now has renovations and an expansion at DP Todd Secondary on the top of its capital priority list.
