Local Retailers Hoping To Get On The Pot Bandwagon

PRINCE GEORGE- Marijuana is officially legal across the country, but in BC, there is only one place to buy legally and that is in Kamloops. Everyone else can buy online, pay $10 shipping, and wait for three to five business days for delivery. Zaga’s Hemp Shop Owner, Ginny Burnett, says she has put forward her application to the province to sell pot. Once that application is approved, it’s sent to the city for approval, then council must agree on rezoning. That process could take up to four months. The citys cannabis sales bylaw is identical to its liquor sales bylaw, however, the licensing fee is more expensive for cannabis retailers. City Planning and Development manager, Ian Wells, says the city has received quite a few calls inquiring about business licenses for pot shops but it’s up to the province to approve applications before action is taken locally.
