WILLIAMS LAKE – British Columbia is having a referendum on what voting system should be in use for provincial elections. The referendum is being held by mail from October 22 to November 30, 2018. Registered voters will get a voting package in the mail from Elections BC between October 22 and November 2, 2018.

“There is a lack of knowledge of what the Referendum is for and the changes suggested to our Electoral System,” stated Mark Doratti, Executive Director of the Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce.  “ Clearly there is confusion with the Ballot itself with how to complete that voting process.”

The Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce and the Northern BC Real Estate Board, are hosting an Electoral Reform Panel presentation on Friday, October 26th from  6:30-8:30 pm in the commons at Lake City Secondary School – Williams Lake Campus.  Sally Watson, NDP Candidate Cariboo Chilcotin during last Provincial Election, and Michael Atwood with the Council of Canadians, will be representing the interests of the Pro Electoral Reform.  Con Electoral Reform panel members will include MLA Donna Barnett, Cariboo Chilcotin riding and MLA Mike Morris of the Prince George-Mackenzie riding.

Anyone who is interested can attend, and event organizers are hopeful the information presented will give clarity to the content of the referendum questions and assist you with the completion of the ballot.
