WILLIAMS LAKE – Two ecosystem restoration burns will be happening this week in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

A 53-hectare burn will be conducted Monday in the Echo Mountain area, about nine kilometres southwest of Alkali Lake. A 500-hectare burn is being planned from Wednesday to Thursday for the Crows Bar area between Canoe Creek and the Big Bar ferry on the east side of the Fraser River.

Smoke from these controlled fires could be seen from nearby communities. These planned burns are part of an ongoing ecosystem restoration program by the Province, in consultation with First Nations, local ranchers, forest licensees, outdoors organizations, Fraser Basin Council, BC Wildfire Federation and the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society.
