Local family-run business targeted by thieves overnight

WILLIAMS LAKE – Gordo’s Rent-All is a well-known Powersports dealership and construction rental service in Williams Lake.  Sometime overnight, their shop on Mackenzie Avenue South was not only broken into, but ransacked.

“Gord and I both received calls from the alarm company around 2:00 am,” Roxanna explained, adding that multiple motion sensors had been triggered.  In eleven years at this location, the business has had no trouble with thieves, though a pigeon in the building did set off the motion detectors a few years ago.  “So, when Gord arrived, he was surprised to find the roll-up door to the shop open.”

Police arrived shortly after Gord did.  It was determined that the culprit gained access to the building, and once inside, started a brand new Kawasaki Teryx Side-by-Side, Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).  He then drove the UTV into and over several snowmobiles and other UTVs that were in the shop, causing an undetermined, but a substantial amount of damage.  “When he finally left the building in the Teryx,” said business owner Roxanna Rauch, “he didn’t have the roll-up door lifted high enough, and smashed into that, too!”  The Teryx UTV, worth approximately $17,000, will likely have visible damage.

This happened at approximately 2:00 am, based on the alarm activity at the business. “Gord was told that RCMP were actually responding to a call from a citizen about an erratic driver,” Roxanna remarked.  “I believe the caller told police that an ATV was being driven erratically near the shop, even hitting vehicles.”  She went on to say police did spot the ATV, but when it entered Boitanio Park, they did not pursue for safety reasons.
