Air Quality Advisory For Burns Lake

Nov 9, 2018 | 10:36 AM

SMITHERS – An Air Quality Advisory was put into effect for Burns Lake Friday, due to high concentrations of fine particulate matter.

It was issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy in collaboration with Northern Health.

Exposure is of particular concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease. Staying indoors and in air-conditioned spaces helps reduce exposure.

There are now restrictions in effect for open burning for the Lakes Timber Supply Area until Sunday. People are asked to not use woodstoves during this advisory unless it’s the only source of heat.
