ICBC Has Top Ten Intersection List

PRINCE GEORGE – It may not come as a surprise that Prince George is home to nine of the top ten crash sites in North Central BC.
Those are, in order of the number of crashes:

*Domano Blvd & Hwy 16
*Ferry Ave & Hwy 16
*Hwy 16 and Hwy 97 & turning lanes
*Cowart Rd & Hwy 16
*15th Ave & Hwy 97
*Hwy 20 & Mackenzie Ave (Williams Lake)
*15th Ave & 15th Ave Frontage & Ospika Blvd
*Massey Dr & Westwood Dr
*Foothills Blvd & North Nechako Rd
*15th Ave & Victoria St

The list certainly isn’t a surprise to local police, who say they are watching for the primary culprits behind the crash scenes, such as distracted driving, speeding, not wearing seatbelts. But Sergeant Matt LaBelle says there’s more to the story.

“We all, as motorists in this city, need to look in the mirror sometimes,” says Sgt. Matt LaBelle, with Prince George RCMP. “There’s a growing thing out there where people think ‘I can do ten over or 15 over the limit.’.  That trickles down to ‘I’m just gonna look at my test real quick.’  or ‘I’m gonna send this text really quick.’  or ‘I’m going to run that yellow light.’.  It’s all these little things that add up.”

So, as winter moves in, and road conditions are at their worst, it could be time to take a new look at what you’re doing behind the wheel.
