City Crews Prepared for Snow and Ice

PRINCE GEORGE – The City is releasing its wintertime operation plans in anticipation of snow and cooler temperatures

Snow removal and ice control trucks are ready, and staff is keeping a close eye on the forecast.  Each year crews with the help of contractors maintain 670 kilometres of road and 189 kilometres of sidewalks through the winter months.

Each year City crews deposit 10 thousand tonnes of rock, sand and salt onto roads, sidewalks and public areas to help with ice control. Once snow and ice is removed,  most of it goes to the two main disposal sites at 18th and Foothills and Guay road.

The City is reminding motorists that on-street parking is restricted through the winter months to help with snow operations. “If people aren’t abiding by parking restrictions and we have a set of graders with two loaders going in there it makes it difficult for that residential area.  We try not to plow around people beacause it’s not very efficient.  Plow around and then they dig themselves out and we have to remove the snow a second time,” said Blake McIntosh,  Manager of Roads and Fleet.
