Prince George – 22 of the top junior hockey players from Western Canada will get the chance to play in this year’s World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alberta. Among the 22, we may just see familiar faces.

Spruce Kings defencemen Layton Ahac and Dylan Anhorn have both received invitations to the Canada West team camp, running from December 3rd to 5th in Calgary.

The second-year BCHL players will be among 44 hopeful western hockey players sourced from the BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Superior International Junior Hockey Leagues.

Ahac, a current B-grade NHL prospect, has amassed 16 assists in 28 games this season, adding to his 6 goals and 23 assists he picked up in his rookie season a year ago. Anhorn, who will be returning to his hometown of Calgary for the tryout, has recorded 4 goals and 11 assists in his 29 games played this year. This comes after a 5 goal, 20 assist campaign in 2017-2018.

Head Coach Adam Maglio says he’s proud of the two for earning the nod as “they both are huge contributors to [the] team and [he knows] both will be excited for the camp and tryout process.”

The Kings are two of 19 representatives from the BCHL attending the camp, with hopes of playing in the World Junior A Challenge beginning on December 9th. The tournament features Canada West and Canada East teams, as well as the United States, Russia, and the Czech Republic.
