SMITHERS – After receiving over 100 submissions, a Terrace resident has been chosen in the Create Your Canada contest. The competition was a chance for anyone to submit their ideas that would make Canada a better country.

Ben Korving’s idea would be to ban all consumer packaging products that aren’t recyclable or compostable.

“Plastics and non-compostable production are increasing at an alarming rate and the federal government needs to wake up,” said Nathan Cullen, MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley. “We need big changes to our laws and the leadership from citizens like Ben will help us deal with this urgent problem. I look forward to meeting Mr. Korving in Ottawa and presenting his bill before my colleagues.”

Cullen will be flying Korving to Ottawa in early 2019 to watch his idea get turned into a bill and tabled by the House of Commons.
