It’s The Most Expensive Time Of The Year

PRINCE GEORGE- It’s hard to believe there are just two weeks left until Christmas, but for some, the stress may already be piling on. The holiday season comes with a lot of expectations and it can be easy to get discouraged when they aren’t met. Canadian Mental Health Association Executive Director, Maureen Davis, says people should try and stick to their normal routine during the month of December. She says it’s important to watch your spending and your diet over the holiday season. She also says some of the blues can be brought on by family members who are no longer around, and it’s important to acknowledge that and honour them if possible.

On top of presents for family members, some feel obligated to donate to charities as there is an abundance of fundraisers in December. Insolvency Trustee, Melody Desmarais, says people should work Christmas donations into their yearly budget. She adds it’s okay to say no if you simply can’t afford it. She also suggests people give the ‘gift of time’ to older family members as that’s what really counts, but if you wrack up the credit card bill this year, have a plan in place to pay it off.
