Coast Hotels Issue Lockout Notice

PRINCE GEORGE – The Coast Hotels has issued 72-hour lockout of its employees.
The lock-out notice was issued for three hotels in BC including the Coast Inn of the North. The company and the union, Unite Now, Local 40, have agreed to emergency mediation today and tomorrow, with a deadline of midnight tomorrow to reach a settlement. The potential lock-out affects 250 workers in those three operations. A rally is set for 4:30 this afternoon at the Coast Inn of the North.
Last week, workers at the Coast Bastion Hotel walked off the job after months of bargaining. The union maintains the hotels have “failed to address demands for decent wage increases, ignored room attendants crippling workloads, proposed just pennies in pension improvements and wants to claw back workers’ tips.”
