UPDATE: Power Restored At CN Centre

Jan 9, 2019 | 9:16 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — An early power outage has left the Aquatic Centre and the adjacent CN Centre in the dark.

The outage was reported at 4:01 am, and hydro crews have been hard at work trying to restore the juice, which also affects the Kin Centres.

Swimmers were turned away from early morning workouts and now ice users are being told the CN Centre and Kin Centres are closed for the time being.

BC Hydro spokesman Bob Gammer says a cable fault is likely to blame for the outage and says it hasn’t been easy pinpointing the problem.

“So right now, because of the conditions we have outside, our crews are excavating snow, clearing things aside, getting into things called junction boxes,” he says. “Opening them up, looking for the fault, testing the cables and then moving on. So, it’s a process because there are several junction boxes in the area.”

As a result, he says it’s difficult to say when power will be restored.

UPDATE: The lights are back on at the CN Centre and Aquatic Centre. BC Hydro says power was restored at 5:22 pm on Wednesday.

He says 1100 BC Hydro customers lost power today, including 900 or so in the Pineview area. That outage was caused by trees coming into contact with power lines.

Gammer says another 150 or so customers on Chief Lake Road lost power due to a motor vehicle incident.
