Snow Removal Has Its Challenges

PRINCE GEORGE – The City says it is doing the best it can with the snow that just hasn’t stopped since just after Christmas.

“That first, initial snow, where we hit 30 plus centimetres of snowfall in such a short period of time,” says Mayor Lyn Hall. “We do have that snow removal policy in place that looks at 48 hours for Priority One and Two, 72 hours for Priority Three’s.  We’re working diligently to get that and we’ve heard of a lot of people. We’ve heard from a bunch of people about what we could have done differently and we’ve heard from a number of people who have said ‘Thanks very much for the work your crews did in our neighbourhood.’ So we weigh all that.

CKPG Today had an online poll since Sunday. It asks: Are you satisfied with the snow removal in the City so far? Of the thousand-plus responses, 83% said no, while 17% were satisfied.

However, a Man-On-The-Street survey found the polar opposite responses, with everyone saying they believed the City was doing the best it could.
To which the Mayor says “thanks for the input and the City will continue to refine the policy” and part of that may be an increase to the snow removal budget.
