PRINCE GEORGE – On Saturday, it was nearly an identical game script as Friday’s matchup, with the Manitoba Bisons holding on for a 69-65 win over the men’s Timberwolves on Saturday.

Vova Pluzhnikov led the men with 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Anthony Hokanson had 14 points off the bench, while Jovan Leamy had 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

“We have been struggling on offense, so we have some things to figure out,” said Hokanson. “We can hang our hats on the fact that we had a good defensive weekend, but we really need to get our offense going forward.”

The defeat drops the Timberwolves to 7-7 on the season, while the Bisons rise to 5-9.

As for the ladies’, they beat the Bisons 90-83 as the team veterans stepped up.

Fourth-year Maria Mongomo led the charge for the TWolves in the opening quarter, shooting 6-7 from the field, including 3-3 from behind the three-point line for a quarter-high 15 points, and four rebounds. In the fourth, scoring was led by Maria Mongomo, Madison Landry and Vasiliki Louka. Mongomo, Landry, and Louka combined for 68 points on the night, while fifth-year guard Abby Gibb had eight points and zero turnovers.

“Three-point shooting is a massive part of our offence. We look to get inside and look for kick-outs. It’s very important for our team to shoot well,” said Emma Thompson.

The victory pushes the TWolves to 9-5 on the season, while the Bisons fall to 6-8 on the campaign.

The TWolves visit the University of Alberta next weekend, as they tip off against the Golden Bears.
