French Immersion In High Demand In SD57

PRINCE GEORGE — Earlier this week, Vernon parents made the news for camping outside local schools to enroll their children in French Immersion programs.  Luckily, that won’t be happening in our district come January 29th when parents go to enroll their future kindergarteners, but there still is high demand for those programs in School District 57.

French Immersion programming has become extremely popular in the district, making capacity and catchment two huge issues for the Board of Education. As the city’s only French high school, Duchess Park, doesn’t have wiggle room once those students make it to secondary school. In fact, enrollment at both College Heights Elementary and Lac des Bois is capped at 40 kids – that’s just two classes.
