The UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams are in Alberta this weekend to take on the Golden Bears and Pandas. Last night was game one of the weekend doubleheader for both teams.

On the men’s side the Timberwolves fought back from an early 25-12 deficit after the first quarter. They limited the Bears to just 31 points in the second and third quarter combined but could not muster a ton of scoring themselves. The men ended up losing 76-68 to the Golden Bears. The win was the Golden Bears ninth straight and now have a 13-2 record while the Timberwolves are 7-8 and have dropped four in a row.

On the women’s side the Timberwolves had a strong start only being down 23-20 to the Pandas after one quarter. The second and third quarter saw the Timberwolves get outscored 39-27 before a strong 25 point fourth quarter but it was not enough as the Pandas walked away with a 86-72 victory. The Timberwolves are now 9-6 while the Pandas lead Canada West with a 13-2 record.

Both the men and women will look to get back in the win column tonight in game two of the doubleheader.
