Timberwolves Wrap Up Weekend In Alberta

The Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams wrapped up a two game set in Alberta last night. Both teams lost Friday night and were looking to get back in the win column.

The men’s team came away with a big upset over the Golden Bears winning 81-70. The two teams were tied 39-39 at half before a strong third quarter saw the Timberolves outscore the Bears 23-13. They never looked back and the win puts the Timberwolves even at 8-8  while Alberta is now 12-4. Tyrell Laing led the way for the Timberwolves with a career high 25 points including seven three-pointers.

On the women’s side the Timberwolves fought hard against the powerhouse Pandas but could not come away with a victory losing 85-75. The Timberwolves shot 2-13 from three compared to the Pandas 10-26. Vasiliki Louka led the Timberwolves with 23 points and nine rebounds.

The Timberwolves will travel to Vancouver to take on the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend where the Thunderbirds men and women’s teams are riding 14 and nine game winning streaks respectively.
