PRINCE GEORGE- Starting April 1st, 2019, ICBC will have a $5,500 cap on the pain and suffering portion of small injury claims.

Doctors will determine whether an injury is major or minor. Small injury claims have risen from $5,004 in 2000 to $16,499 in 2016, a 230 per cent increase. A local lawyer disagrees with the changes and thinks the solution is to go private while ICBC says they are necessary and staying public has numerous benefits.

Some of the changes included with this cap include:

  • Funeral benefits increasing form $2,500 to $7,500
  • More types of treatments being covered including acupuncture, chiropractic care, counselling, kinesiology, massage therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and visits to your doctor
  • Wage loss payments and other benefits increased
  • CRT will handle customer disputes about minor injury claims
