UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck At 5th & Carney

Jan 21, 2019 | 6:55 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — Update: The Prince George RCMP has provided more details into last night’s collision at 5th and Carney.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says investigators believe that an elderly pedestrian with a walker was crossing Carney Street, but did not make it to the other side before the light changed.

He says an adult male driver of a full-sized sedan then proceeded through the fresh green light on Carney and did not see the woman who was wearing dark clothing.

Douglass says the driver swerved to avoid the pedestrian but struck the elderly woman with the vehicle’s side mirror.

He says the woman was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No charges were laid against the driver.

Early the next morning, at around 12:30 a.m., Douglass says an adult male wearing dark clothing and riding his skateboard was struck by a pickup truck while crossing 20th Avenue near Spruce Street.

He says the pedestrian was also transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No charges were laid against the driver, who remained at the scene.

In light of these two incidents, Douglass is reminding all pedestrians that reflective clothing or blinking lights are the best way to ensure you are seen while out walking.

Earlier: An elderly woman in a walker was struck by a vehicle in the intersection at 5th Avenue and Carney Street shortly before 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Witnesses say she was struck shortly after leaving the Petro Canada gas station.

A first responder on scene confirmed she was struck but noted she was alert and responsive.

The woman was eventually taken to hospital. No word yet on the severity of her injuries.
