Another major sporting event is coming to Prince George.

This time it’s the 2020 World Women’s Curling Championships.

It will take place from March 14 to the 22 at the CN Centre. The event is the beginning of Olympic qualifiers, with approximately 12 teams expected.

It will be the fourth world women’s curling championship contested in BC and the first since the 2008 event at Vernon where Jennifer Jones won.

Canada’s representative will be the winner from the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Our country leads the way with 17 world women’s titles, the next closest country is Sweden with eight.

“We are thrilled to host this premier event, and for the opportunity to showcase our community on the international stage,” said Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall. “Thank you to the World Curling Federation and Curling Canada for recognizing that Prince George is an accomplished host city with world-class venues, volunteers, and experiences for athletes. We are excited to be a part of the global curling community and we look forward to hosting the world’s best women curlers in 2020!”
