New proposed regulations aim to stop youth vaping

PRINCE GEORGE – New regulations proposed by the Federal Health Minister aim to prevent vape products from being advertised to young people.

The new regulations will focus on restricting where vape advertisements can be located. Under the proposed regulations companies won’t be able to place vape advertisements in areas that will have a large concentration of young people present. In addition, restricting where branding can be shown could be restricted similarly to cigarettes. That would mean stores would have to put vape products behind black coverings, hiding them from view.

Vape stores in Prince George are unconvinced that the new restrictions will be effective, believing that hiding products isn’t the way to go.

“That’s how you identify a brand… I don’t think that’s going to change the fact that kids want to start vaping, even though they shouldn’t be,” said Aaron Stewart of PG Vapor.
