Civic centre celebrates a milestone birthday

PRINCE GEORGE -The Prince George Conference and Civic Centre is marking a milestone birthday today.  

It was 25 years ago today the facility was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony by then Mayor John Backhouse and MLA Lois Boone.  Through the years the building has hosted three million visitors and averages about 400 events a year.  

The peak year for visitors was 2015 when the venue hosted the Canada Winter Games with about 245,000 visitors.  One highlight was back in 1994 when the Queen visited UNBC and made a stop at the facility.  

Its estimated the local economic impact of the meeting place is about $10 million dollars a year
