Lighting at Ginter’s closer

PRINCE GEORGE – A highly-popular off-leash greenspace may be getting some lighting. The South Bowl Community Association has presented Council with a petition and a plan for setting up two lights at the Massey Drive entrance of Ginter’s. Michelle Lequereux with the Community Association told Council that two standard street lights would cost $7,000, while two solar lights would cost $2,500 apiece and leasing lights from Hydro would cost $2,500 a piece.
The Association says two lights would, first, improve safety to the parking lot and the open space and, second, enhance usage of the area.
However, Councillor Garth Frizzell pointed out that greenspace is not a park in the true sense. In the Official Community Plan, a roadway is planned for that area to connect Foothills Boulevard to both Ferry Avenue and Massey Drive. He says, if the City plans to invest money in the area as a park, it should be designated as a park. And, he adds the area in question has the fewest park amenities of the entire city given its population density.
City Administration did note that there is a contingency fund for projects under $10,000, saying leasing from Hydro would be the most cost-efficient method.
