It required more than 60 minutes of hockey but the Spruce Kings were victorious 3-2 over the Coquitlam Express last night. Just over two minutes into the opening frame Coquitlam opened the scoring thanks to Joshua Wildauer. That would be all for scoring in the opening frame with the shots even at seven apiece.

There was no scoring in the second period so the Kings were down 1-0 heading into the third. Chong Min Lee tied the game up a few seconds past the halfway mark. Coquitlam would regain the lead with four minutes to go thanks to Wildauer’s second of the night.

A late power play for the Kings gave them an extra man and they took advantage. Ben Brar scored with a minute and a half to go to send the game to overtime. A rare overtime fight between Jordan Schulting and Liam Watson-Brawn happened just past the halfway mark of the extra frame.

Another Coquitlam penalty late in overtime gave the Kings a chance to seal the game which they did. Lucas Vanroboys scored to give the Kings a 2-0 series lead in the best of seven series. Logan Neaton stopped 27 of 29 shots he faced for the win. Kolby Matthews stopped 36 of 39 for the Express.
