Cougars drop 5-2 decision to Victoria

The Cougars dropped their fifth straight game and second in as many days to the Victoria Royals last night. The Royals got the scoring started with a power-play goal seven minutes in from Ralph Jarrat. They scored another power-play goal three minutes later from Carson Miller for a 2-0 lead after the first.

After being outshot 13-4 in the first the second was a different story with the Cougars outshooting Victoria 17-5. The Cougars would tie the game up in the second with goals by Josh Maser, his 28th, and Jack Sander, his second of the year.

Victoria would regain the lead 14 seconds into the third with Phillip Schultz scoring his 17th of the year. Schultz would add another five minutes later to seal the game for the Royals. Igor Martynov added an empty netter for the Royals who skated away with the 5-2 win.

Taylor Gauthier made 27 saves on 31 shots in the loss while Brock Gould stopped 32 of 34 shots he faced for the win. The Cougars will return home on the weekend for two games against the Portland Winterhawks.
