PRINCE GEORGE – Recently there has been a shift on college campuses as people become more politically polarized and potentially controversial opinions have been discouraged. UNBC students are aiming to change that, kicking off political week a five-day campaign made up of seven different events that encourage student participation in politics and debate.

Constructive debate was one of the founding principles of academic institutions, but in recent years there has been a dramatic shift. Political opinions are now viewed as an integral part of one’s identity, and listening to an opposing viewpoint can be taboo. For the political clubs at UNBC, hearing dissenting opinions is key to being better informed and making decisions.

Political Week at UNBC will feature speakers, a mock debate and other events aimed at bringing students with differing political opinions together to share ideas and learn something new.
