Minor Cougars come up short in league semifinals

The semi-final playoff picture looked bleak this weekend for the BC Minor Midget League Cariboo Cougars. The team, built exclusively of 2003-born players, were up against the best team in the league in the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. The T-Birds had all six previous meetings between the teams this season, but the Minor Cats came out looking good with a win on the road Friday night. Jaydon Merritt scored two goals, including the overtime winner to give the Cariboo team the lead in the series. Unfortunately, the next two nights, things would lean the T-Birds way. Saturday would also go to overtime, but the 6-5 final would be in favor of the home team. They’d take Sunday’s deciding Game 3 by a score of 4-1 to advance to the finals and eliminate the Minor Cats, ending their first season of play.
