Winnipeg wins WHL draft lottery

PRINCE GEORGE – A season filled with disappointment was capped off today as the Cougars fell just short of winning the first overall selection in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft.

The Cats went into the draft with the best chance of having the winning ball drawn after trading for the Swift Current Broncos’ first-round pick.

The newly relocated Winnipeg Ice would win out though, moving up from second to take the top spot.

It wasn’t all bad for the Cougars, who will now have the second and fourth overall selections in the draft, giving them a good opportunity to bring in some high-end young talent to fill roster spots in the future.
