PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George passed its 2019 Budget Thursday. Of the over $51 million in expenditures, nearly 45 percent is due to solid waste management.

It’s always been the largest part of the budget. Included in those expenditures are three waste management projects. The Mackenzie Transfer Station will be converted, moving materials and recyclables to Prince George. Relocation of the Foothills entrance. And finally, there is a need for better service and a better site at the Cummings Transfer Station.

Those projects comprise most of the expenditures, but another part comes through illegal dumping.

Illegal dumping has been an ongoing issue throughout the Regional District and something that encourages a lot of engagement between them and user groups. While work has been done to address the issue, it is difficult to determine if it is actually working.
