City to conduct child care inventory

PRINCE GEORGE – The City has successfully applied for funds from the provincial government to put together an inventory of child care spaces in the community. The $25,000 will allow the City to, first, consult with child care providers and individuals about the needs and, second, put together the inventory.

“With those two pieces of information, we’re then going to target child care space needs for the next ten years,” explains Chris Bone, the Manager of Social Planning.

She says this would not be the first such inventory, but with the Province’s commitment to the Community Child Care Planning Program, it’s wise to have the latest information available.

Bone says this community has some unique challenges, especially around the number of people who do shift work and finding child care outside the traditional workday can be impossible.
