Smoke pile burns to be visible near Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE — Smoke and flames may be visible from Williams Lake and surrounding communities starting today.

This as BC Wildfire Crews plan to burn piles of woody debris in the area over the next six weeks to reduce wildfire risks.

The burns could start today and run through April 30, depending on weather and site conditions. BC Wildfire Service personnel will be on-site with firefighting equipment to monitor and control these burns at all times.

The work is part of ongoing fuel management projects with a goal of removing this material so there’s less fuel available to burn in the event of a wildfire.
