PRINCE GEORGE— Pacific BioEnergy Corporation (PacBio) continues to investigate a fire that occurred at a Prince George plant Saturday morning.

A fire was first seen at the top of a bucket elevator which transports wood pellets. Strong winds blew embers from the fire to the roof of a nearby electrical equipment building. Members of the PG Fire and Rescue Department responded quickly and were able to rapidly extinguish both fires. There was extensive fire damage to an electrical control room, but no one was left injured.

PacBio is continuing to monitor the site and its equipment and will focus on the impacted areas. PacBio will also say it will take necessary steps to prevent further incidents as damaged equipment and structure is assessed, removed, repaired or replaced.

“We will continue our investigation into what caused the fire and, as always, we are committed to learning from this incident, making improvements and sharing our learning with the industry,” PacBio President John Stirling says. “Our goal is to get our plant safely back into full operation as soon as possible.”
