PRINCE GEORGE— April 16 is the National Day of Action on the Overdose Crisis. Events across the nation will be hosted by the Canadian Association of People Who Use Drugs (CAPUD), including in Prince George.

CAPUD believes the decriminalization of drugs can help prevent future overdoses.

“We want drugs to be regulated just like alcohol is regulated,” CAPUD Ally Niki Hanson says. “Nobody ever dies from having a sip of beer, but people are dying from literally having a sip of fentanyl.”

Prince George saw 24 overdose deaths in 2017. Overdose deaths nearly doubled in 2018 with 46 deaths.
