PRINCE GEORGE – For the first time in known history, private land has been gifted to the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.

Benefactor Penelope Harris bought two parcels of land in the Willow River area as an investment when she heard about the development of the University of Northern BC.

Over the years she tried to sell the lots,  and has now decided to gift them to the Lheidli T’enneh.  Her one hope is that the land is taken care of. “It’s my way of showing reconciliation to the Lheidli T’enneh for being stewards of their traditional lands,” says the Abbotsford resident.

Chief Clay Pountney says no decisions have been made for the two parcels of land, which he calls a “very generous gift.” Pountney goes on to say the land gift is “an example of reconciliation in action.”
