PRINCE GEORGE— The Prince George RCMP received a report of a collision between a bicycle and a pick-up truck at the intersection of Massey Drive and Winnipeg Street and 20th Avenue and Carney Street in Prince George yesterday (April 22) at approximately 4:15 p.m.

A 23-year-old male Prince George cyclist was transported to hospital in critical condition.  The 21-year-old male driver remained on scene and wasn’t injured. The intersection was closed for a period of time while officers investigated.

Investigators believe the driver of the pick-up was travelling northbound through a fresh green light after stopping for the red light, while the eastbound cyclist proceeded through the fresh red light, colliding with the pick-up.  The investigation is continuing.

Police are reminding cyclists the Motor Vehicle Act laws apply to them and they must obey traffic control devices. Drivers are also being reminded to check left and right before entering intersections, even on a green light.
