AIDS Awareness At UNBC

Nov 29, 2017 | 10:55 AM

Positive Living North has a presence at UNBC this week, with brochures and other educational materials for students. Students can also use the opportunity to be tested for HIV and other sexually-transmitted diseases. The focus on campus is the younger, sexually-active youth between the ages of 15 and 24. That demographic tends to take more risks.
“Because we know that [students] may participate in activities that put them at risk for not just HIV, but other sexually-transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis,” says Orlando McLeish, HIV Educator with Positive Living North. “Based on the statistics, typically speaking, individuals within the 15 to 24 age group are at a higher risk for sexually transmitted infections in British Columbia.”
Events will be taking place all week at the university, all focused on HIV awareness and prevention.
