Green Day Underway At UNBC
PRINCE GEORGE — The 11th annual Green Day took place today, with the halls filled with kiosks on how to be greener today than yesterday.
“Green day for me is about saving the world; make sure everything’s recyclable, energy efficiency, all that jazz,” says Biology major Julia Starzyk.
A major focus of this year event is the electric vehicle with a number of models on display before the main entrance to the university. That includes a Tesla owned by Owen and Lisa Marshall.
“For the North, it’s amazing,” says Owen. “People worry about the batteries and what they are going to do in the winter and the cold. The reality is, the trouble we have with our gas vehicles is all to do with having to turn over big engines and the cold oils. This thing, there’s no transmission, there’s no heavy engine to start up, your battery pack pre-warms.”
He firmly believes electric vehicles will be the way of the future, especially as more and more charging stations come online.
