PRINCE GEORGE- Every year, elementary students in School District 57 from grades five to seven have the opportunity to take part in a reading club. They exclusively read Red Cedar books, which are novels by Canadian authors, then they compete in Battle of the Books. “Some of them are very deep topics, very thought-provoking, and really enjoyable books,” said librarian Tina Cousins.

Students are encouraged to read all 12 books on the Red Cedar list, then they work in teams to answer a number of questions.  “Last year was my first year doing it so I only read five of the books,” said second place winner, Audrey, “but this year I decided to go all out and I read 11 out of the 12 books and worked really hard.”

The Hart Highlands team came in first place this afternoon, but seven of the top teams won gift certificates to a local bookstore.
