Apr 19, 2018 | 9:14 AM

Dusty conditions caused by road traffic stirring up winter traction material are to blame for a dust advisory issued by the Ministry of Environment this morning.

Dust concentrations tend to be the highest around busy roads and industrial operations.

Exposure to dust is a concern for infants,  the elderly, and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

There are some tips to reduce your personal health risk including :

-Avoid roads with heavy traffic

-Use common sense regarding outdoor physical activity

-Keep windows and doors closed, and reduce indoor sources of pollution including smoking and vacuuming

-Run an air cleaner

-Those with heart or lung conditions may be more senstive to the effects of poor air quality and should watch for change in symptoms due to poor air quality exposure.  If symptoms continue to bothersome seek medical attention

The advisory is expected to continue until precipitation or more dust control takes place.
