Residents Say Yes To Both A New Fire Hall & Four Seasons Pool
The preliminary votes are in and residents in Prince George believe strongly that he city needs a new swimming pool to replace the current four Seasons Pool downtown, along with a brand new Fire Hall #1.
Advanced Polling numbers were released earlier this evening with 1,378 people voting for a new fire hall and 258 voting against.
As for the Four Seasons Pool, 1,150 voted in favour while 487 voted against the $35 million facility during advanced polls.
Votes cast on Saturday saw 5,036 people come out and vote for the replacement of fire hall #1 , which will cost the city $15 million. 1,086 gave the project the thumbs down.
In total, almost 83% of voters were in favour of replacing the four decade old facility, which is proposed along Massey Drive, next to the YMCA of Northern BC.
6,520 voted yes, while 1,355 voted no.
The four seasons pool was also a landslide in votes with 63% of voters saying yes to a new pool.
Close to 1,200 votes separated the yay’s from nay’s on voting day as 3,683 tallied “yes” while 2,446 tallied “no” on Saturday.
These results are preliminary as the final results along with voter turnout will be announced on Monday.
As for tax implications, the city estimates a 3% tax levy to help pay for the two projects.
Estimated broken down costs look at the assessed value of a property worth $100,000 will cost the tax payer $8.45 per year to help fund the replacement of Fire Hall #1, with an additional $19.71 per year for the new pool.
If your property’s assessed value is at $300,000, expect to be coughing up an additional $25.35 per year for the Fire Hall and $59.13 for the swimming pool per year, or $84.38 in total per year.
