Mayor Pleased With Referendum

It has been a constant theme at City Hall for some time; a referendum on borrowing $15 million to replace Fire Hall #1 and $35 million to replace the Four Seasons Pool. The final results have approval for the fire hall at nearly 83%, while support for the replacement pool was not as strong, at nearly 63%. The results are not surprising for Mayor Lyn Hall. “The numbers are indicative of some of the conversations that we were hearing coming closer to election day,” he says. “It really boiled down to us, Council and Administration, wanting to get the message out about why we were looking at a new pool and a new fire hall.” Hall feels the results were the product of strong messaging. “We did 12 presentations to various service clubs and organizations. Kathleen Soltis, our City Manager and her team made presentations to our staff,” says Hall. “I think that may have helped in the long run. It gave people an opportunity to make listen to why those two decisions were made to go to referendum and some of the implications around the pool and fire hall and what it meant from an operational perspective. We talked a lot about the condition of those facilities.” The final results of the referendum will be discussed and read into the record at a meeting of Council this evening.
